Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Just got diagnosed this morning with left sided parititis by CT and left side face very swollen. I was prescribed Augmentin every 12 hrs, sour candy, warm compresses. Pain 8/10 took Motrin 800 about 5 hrs ago. Will it drain eventually what else can I do?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain Parotitis is an inflammation of Parotid gland that is a major salivary gland and it can get inflamed and swollen due to causes like Infection caused by bacteria or virus while it can also be due to causes like Radiations, auto immune diseases and certain medication side effects..
In case if you are advised antibiotics, then it can be probably due to infection and will be resolved soon..
If there is pus formation then it is generally reduced with medication [antibiotics] but in case if it does not improve then either Incision and drainage or aspiration can help in removing pus and healing you faster..
But before this continue with antibiotics for atleast a week and then proceed towards getting it drained..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
