How Long Does Recovery Take Form A Leg Infection?

GhMy 47 year old daughter had open hear surgery on 8/2 resulting from childhood radiation when she had Hodgkin s disease. The surgery was successful. They released her after 6 days because she got an infection in the leg they got the vein from. They gave her antibiotic through Iv. A few days later they had her return to hospital. More of same with antibiotics (oral) to take at home. It is now the 20th, she is back home but leg is still red. How long should it take for this to subside and how dangerous is it to her new valves, etc? Thank you.chandler287

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Redness in the leg after infection may last and this is nothing to worry as long as the rest of the symptoms are getting better. If the pain and swelling are getting better very likely she is in the process of healing.

If she is not better at all she will need to see her doctor make sure the antibiotics are working or she will need further treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
