Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How Long Does Recovery Take When Diagnosed With Brain Swelling Post Accident?
My friend was in a bad car accident 4 days ago because of relatively minor brain swelling they put him in a medically induced coma. Yesterday they determined he is recovering well enough to bring him out. Can you please give me an idea of how long it will take for him to come out of it? The drug used was fentonol
As per my clinical experience, there can be various conditions for brain swelling as in terms of raised intracranial pressure, cerebral edema from trauma, hemorrhage or contusion and others. The duration of effects of the underlying pathology, its reversal duration and impact depend upon multiple parameters. If you can provide his MRI or CT plates for correlation, better guidelines can be figured out in this instance.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
