How Long Does Swelling And Pain In Sprained Ankle Take To Heal?

I have a sprained acl, right leg. Its been 4 weeks since the injury happened. Still hurts on left side of knee cap. Also, fluid above knee cap that increases when i walk on it at work. Swelling increases when walked on. How long to heal? When or if should i return to doctor? No follow ups scheduled. Taking tramadol 50mg, ibuprofen 600mg.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have swelling and pain in sprained ankle take to heal. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like soft tissue injury like tendon or ligament tear , fracture , baker's cyst , or localize infection . I would suggest you to consult orthopedic surgeon for proper examination. Doctor may order CT scan , x-ray or physical examination to confirm th diagnosis . Doctor may recommend surgical excision of cyst , prescribe anti inflammatory , antibiotics . Doctor may also recommend physical therapy . For now keep your leg elevated while lying down and apply warn compresses .
