How Long Does The GGT Level Take To Become Normal After Stopping Alcohol?
Hi there, My ggt was 111 due to over drinking while on holidays and a few social events. I was wanting to know how long it usually takes before can re re test my results? I have stopped drinking for 12 days now, my other results were all normal except alt of 53. I m 6 foot 2 - 85kg and 37 years old. I keep very fit and exercise at least 5 days per week. Non smokers. Thanks James.
Gamma glutamyltransferase (GGT) level reflects liverinjury apparently caused by alcohol and certain drugs. Its level typically rises following heavy alcohol consumption that has continued for several weeks. It may take 2–6 weeks of total abstinence from alcohol intake to decrease the GGT levels within the normal reference range.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
