Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a bad fall near 6 weeks ago and (diagnosed by my GP) ended up with a haematoma. I was told that it should go on its own. It did shrink a bit after a couple of weeks but has made no progress since. It is also very sore to touch under it and hurts even when I run. My doctor just sent me away again and told me to give it more time but I am worried it is not getting any better
Thanks for asking at Healthcare Magic. I read your question and I understand your concern. Depending upon size, site and surrounding structures Hematoma takes 1 week to 20 weeks to resolve. Apply the protocol of RICE that is rest, elevation of affected limb, elastic compression bandage over hematoma and ice pack with something intervene if it's very painful. However infection is the most common complication of hematoma. If you are running fever or hematoma is getting warm and tender then go for full blood count if total leukocyte count was high then it implies infection and Doppler ultrasound of hematoma will settle the issue. if it was infected than drainage is mandatory followed by antibiotics. Hope it helps best. Don't forget to rate this answer and close the discussion at Healthcare Magic. Take your best care. Regards Dr Ejaz
