How Long Does The Pain Due To Cracked Ribs Take To Alleviate?

I cracked my 8th and 9th ribs six weeks ago from falling on ice. They are non-displaced cracks. I still have pain when laying on my back, turning on either side, and getting out of bed. It throbs and is sore. How much longer before the pain is gone? It doesn t seem to have healed any further in the last two weeks. I haven t had a pain-free sleep in six weeks.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Cracked ribs need to be immobilized or fixed with strap sticking plasters in appropriate manner by an orthopedic surgeon for a few weeks. Addition of oral calcium, vitamin D, vitamin C preparations along with antibiotic and anti-inflammatory drugs to support healing process.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
