How Long Does The Phlegm And Nasal Drip Persist Post A Tonsillectomy?
I had a tonsillectomy on June 2, 2016. I want to know when the gap from that surgery (between the nasal passageway to the back of the throat) is supposed to heal. Reason being, I have a lot of mucus/phlegm and nasal drip that I have to spit out and sometimes drinks come regurgitate back out through my nostril when I drink or lean forward in a horizontal lovemaking position over my wife.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain the wounds after tonsillectomy heals in about 2 weeks but in case if you still have mucous and phlegm along with post nasal drip then it can b due to infection in throat and you need to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated..
You can be advised throat swab culture or blood tests to confirm the diagnosis..
In case if infection is severe you can be advised antibiotics like Augmentin, anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen and along with it mucolytics like Ambroxol and warm saline gargles, steam inhalations and decongestant nasal sprays can also be advised..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
