Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a one cold sore about 48 years ago. Does that virus remain dormant in my system? Could I pass it on to someone else after all these years? None of my immediate family has experienced any cold sores that we have attributed to me, but my sister recently went through a trauma and ended up with one and thought perhaps I had passed it on to her. I m sorry if this sounds silly, but I am concerned.
HI welcome to Ask A Doctor service. I have read your question and here is my advice. The virus of cold sore can remain dormant for years howe'ver it does not spread until it is active. so you can only transmit when it is active . however this virus is very common among general papulation .so I'd mint think that u have caused her though we can't be sure . Hopes I have answered your question. I will be glad to answer any further question about this. Regards Dr Rahman
