Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How Long Post Usage Of Antibiotics Should Urine Dip Stick Test Be Done?
I ve had proteinuria with UTI S in the past. My Dr. seemed concerned and wanted me to get retested later at the lab which I never did. I ve recently been experiencing moderate to severe L back hip pain which goes around to the side and caused me to be unable to bear little weight on the L leg. At a Dr s visit last week he was palpating my abdomen close to the L hip and it caused the most excruciating pain ever that it made me scream out loudly! He then asked well, what would cause that? Do you have any kidney problems ? I said no it s my hip. But to get to the point, now I m wondering if it could possibly be something with the kidney as I have a strong maternal family history of kidney disease. My question is how long after antibiotics (I m currently on a Z- Pack for bronchitis) should I wait before doing a urine dipstick?

Hi as u are taking antibiotics for bronchitis it should not really affect proteinuria. To be on the safer side you can wait a week after the infection has subsided to do the dipstick test. Also if you are having severe left hip pain because of a kidney issue you should get that looked into too. It could be an infection affecting your kidney which could lead to increased protein in your urine. I hope this helps. Take care :)
