How Long Should I Use Anti Hypertensive Medicines With Steroid Side Effects?
I was treated for bilateral papilledema due to idiopathic intra cranial hypertension with IV administration of methyloprednisolone & Solumedrol.... which shot up my BP so anti hypertensives were given..Further I was on Wysolone oral tapering from 40mg to 30- 20-10 mg over two months..Now I'm absolutely off steroids but DImaox 250 is given TDS. MY BP continues in normal range of 120 130/80-90 despite taking SELOKEN 50 COB+VERSYL 8mg (both once a day) and STAMLO 5 mg (twice a day).....How long will I need anti hypertensives as a cover for the side effects of steroids?

Steroids are known to exacerbate the blood pressure due to its salt retaining actions.The antihypertensives in your case are needed until the intracranial tension comes to normal values.This can be assessed indirectly through resolution of papilledema changes by fundoscopy or directly through Lumbar puncture for estimation of CSF pressure.Damox 250 can protect you against elevated intracranial pressures.It would be around 2-3 weeks for the antihypertensives to get tapered as sudden withdrawal of antihypertensives can precipitate excess blood pressure.Consult your cardiologist for further queries.
