Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How Long Should Loperamide Be Taken For Abnormal Bowel Movements?
have had firm but not hard bowel motion, which I can remove myself. Then sometimes loose bowel motions very quick and not much warning. This happened over several days and stopped. Have been given loperamide. This to me is not diarrhoea. Should continue with this medication?
Diarrhea is can be due to infective etiology and that should be treated with antibiotics and other supportive meds like ORS probiotics increasing fluid intake. If the stool is not forming there are stool bulking agents are also like racecadotril which help to the bulk of the stool. There can be due to motility problem of the intestine where the hypermotile bowel leads to diarrhea where you should take loperamide. It decreases the bowel motility like your case, I don't think you have to take it because of that less likely.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Bhadresh Lakhani
