Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How Long Should A Patient Post Sphincteroplasty Stay In The Hospital?
I am going to be having the Open Transduodenal Sphincteroplasty very soon. I see the surgeon, Dr. Sellers tomorrow. My main question is what is the average length of stay,(barring complications) in the hospital. Also do most people get pancreatitis with this? I have suffered for 3 years and we have just found the problem. I have not had pancreatitis so far. I had a Nissen Fundoplication last February. I had reflux so bad I was hospitalized 4 times with aspiration pneumonia. Had a Hiatal Hernia repair at the same time. I did great with that surgery and have not had one symptom of reflux nor Gerd sin the majorce! Hopefully, this next surgery will be just as successful! I am taking a list of questions with me but I thought you may be able to help me ask the major questions! Thank you!
The average length of stay in hospital after major surgery depends from one patient to another. Once the patient is able to take food orally, is ambulatory enough to do his daily activities and the surgical scar shows signs of healing, the patient can be discharged with regular follow up as advised.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
