How Long Should I Take Steroids To Treat Clogged Ears?

I was put on a steroid for hearing loss and being unable to unblock my ears. I have had this problem for 3 and 1/2 weeks. How long will it take before I get some of my hearing back and what are then odds (percentage) that I will be able to get some hearing back?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of clogged ears which seems to be due to ear infection, infection like sinusitis through Eustachian tube and recurring otitis media.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you to again visit ENT specialist and get complete examination done and start treatment by prescribing antibiotic(amoxicillin) course, perform cleansing of ear and treat infection like sinusitis if it is there. You should not ignore it as it has some serious complications like meningitis, infection of middle ear and permanent hearing loss. Apply warm compresses to ear 2-3 times a day and use ear drops containing antibiotics and take rest.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
