How Long Should I Wait To Get Acute Sinusitis Cured?
I was diagnosed with acute Sinusitis on Friday. The doctor put me on Amoxi 500 mg every 12 hours. I am still experiencing swelling around my left eye and pretty bad headache. Along with congested nose. how long should I wait before going back to the doctor? Does it take this long to start to clear up?
Sinusitis is caused due to infection/ inflammation of the para nasal sinuses. The duration of recovery depends on the severity of the infection & the sensitivity of the causative organism to the antibiotic administered.
Management includes: 1. Steam inhalation. 2. Analgesics like paracetamol 3. Nasal decongestant drops. 3. Antibiotics depending upon culture & sensitivity reports to remove the causative organism. 4. Antihistamine preparations can also be used to provide symptomatic relief.
So, your treating Doctor has done right to start with Amoxi 500 mg, which is usually effective in management of Sinusitis. However, if you do not feel any relief even after 5-6 days of antibiotic treatment, kindly visit your treating Physician & discuss regarding the same.
Wish you good health & a speedy recovery. Take care.
