How Long Should Immobilizer Be Worn To Treat Torn ACL Post An Injury?
Sir, I probably have a torn ACL. It has been 3 weeks since i had the injury and now i have regained almost the complete motion of my knee and there is very less pain. I presently walk with the help of a immobilizer whenever i go outside(45 min in the whole day due to work). So, I just want to know that should i keep wearing the immobilizer or now a brace would be fine? And should i even walk or i need more bed rest? And after how long can i start walking ?
The need of immobilizer or walker depends upon the level or degree of ligament tear particularly evidenced by MRI findings. The minor to moderate degree of ligament tear is healed within a period of 4-6 weeks period, as against that of severe tear requiring surgery may take a long long period post operative.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
