How Long Should One Take Cilest After Taking Cerazette?
I had been taking cerazette (mini pill) for 24 days, bled for 17 of these so docs switched me to cilest (combined pill) immediately so stopped taking cerazette on day 24 and what would have been day 25 I took the first of the 21 cilest pills. How long do I need to use extra protection for to ensure I don t fall pregnant?
Cerazette contains desogestrel, a female natural sex hormone that is used in the prevention of unwanted pregnancies from unprotected sexual intercourses. On the other hand, Cilest contains both estrogen as ethinyl estradiol and progesterone as norgestimate that is also used in the prevention of unwanted pregnancies from unprotected sexual intercourses. You can start the combined contraceptive pill right away if you are switching from progesterone only pill to a combined pill. If changing to a combined pill like Cilest from a mini pill like Cerazette, you require to use additional contraceptive methods like condoms for the first 7 days to avoid any unwanted pregnancy from unprotected sexual intercourses.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Zubayer Alam, General And Family Physician,
