How Long Will Does Phlegm Last In The Body In A Pneumonia Patient?

I was in the ER on Tuesday afternoon and they diagnosed me with Pneumonia and I'm on a Zpack of antibiotics. I am feeling better but am still having some blood in my phlegm that I am coughing up. Should I be concerned about this? Everything that I've found on-line indicated that it could take a while for bloody phlem to stop but wanted to ask to make sure.

Pulmonologist 's  Response
Thanks for your question on HCM.
I can understand your situation and problem.
In my opinion you should consult pulmonologist and get done sputum culture and sensitivity.
You are having blood in sputum. This is known as hemoptysis.
If appropriate antibiotic it should be subsided in 1week.
But since you are still having hemoptysis, we need to identify the causative organism for your pneumonia and start specific antibiotics which are active against the isolated organism
Sputum culture will isolate the organism and sensitivity report will guide you regarding effective antibiotics.
By this we can avoid haphazard use of antibiotics, as haphazard use can lead to delayed recovery and drug resistance.
So consult pulmonologist and discuss all these.
