How Long Would Medication For Extremely Painful Yeast Infection Take To Show Effect?
I just got diagnosed with an extremely painful yeast infection yesterday. The doctor prescribed me a one-time pill to take and I took it this morning. However, after a couple of hours my symptoms have worsened. I doubt this is due to the pills itself, rather just the course of the infection. How long should I expect to wait before the pill starts to make a difference?
You have a yeast infection however the site of infection is unclear. It would help to answer better if the details were known. However fungal infections are treated with a single dose of a certain antifungal agent for particular sites and it usually responds in a day or two. There may be some worsening due to scratching unknowingly at the site of infection.
So if there is no relief even after waiting for a day or two please see the physician again and get it examined for any superadded infections that need further medication. Till then wear loose cotton clothing around the area if its on skin and wash with lukewarm water and keep the area dry. Hope this helps.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Shreya Kunder, General & Family Physician
