How Many Days After Vaginal Hysterectomy Can Normal Household Chores Safe To Perform?

I had a vaginal hysterectomy yesterday (because of fibroids) The uterus was only removed. Is it really 6 weeks I cannot lift anything over 10lbs (like I was told today at discharge). I only have an elderly mother in law and my husband to help me out. We have a 5, 3 and 1 year old twins. My mother in law is going to help as much as she can but I cannot rely on her all the time. My husband works and travels and even though he is going to carry the load and take care of his work and the children, I know it is too much for him. Will I need all 6 weeks to go back to taking care of my children or is it common to go back to daily functions within a week or two.

cHi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this hysterectomy. I am however happy that you got treated for whatever the indication of this surgery was.

Recovery greatly varies from one individual to another and depends on what specific act was performed and whether there were any complications or not. Sticking to the advice fro your surgeon is always the golden rule. However, unless there is a specific reason why you should not be allowed to perform certain tasks that your doctor has made clear to you, doing as much as you feel comfortable in a progressive manner is the best way to get back. For instance, if an act should cause pains, it means you should avoid such. Avoiding difficult and heavy duty task for a start would be fine. I think washing the dishes, changing diaper, bathing your child, etc are tasks that can be accomplished without any great fears but carrying a bucket of load would be highly discouraged.

I hope you find the above information helpful.I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and please feel free to ask for more clarifications and information if need be.
Thanks.
