How Many Tests Are Needed To Diagnose Sleep Apnea?
How many appointments are necessary for a sleep apnea study.I have all ready spent one night in the hospital and now have been told I need to spend a second night with the machine. I was under the impression that only one night was necessary. I as m skeptical because they have admitted the got my results mixed up with another patients.
Hi.Can understand your concern. As per your query about diagnosis of sleep apnea ,its sometime difficult for doctor to reach a diagnosis based on observation or Home sleep test.So he may be calling you for one more appointment to confirm the diagnosis with a machine called polysomnogram. In sleep apnea there is partial or complete airway obstruction while sleep. This is due to falling of structures of nose and mouth on the back wall of throat which cause airway obstruction.....For treatment usually a device is given calledCPAP or APAP which maintain the airway pressure while sleeping. Make the diagnosis clear with the specialist and get the treatment done soon..If you are obese you should also reduce some as sleep apnea is commonly seen in fatty people...I hope the information helps you.Take care.
