Hi & Welcome.
Incomplete data like gender, reports of lab tests such as CBC, serum iron studies, stool analysis, not mentioned.
As per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention the adults with
iron deficiency anemia who are not pregnant should take one 300 milligram tablet of
ferrous sulfate, containing 50 to 60 milligrams of elemental iron, twice per day for three months.
Hemoglobin should be measured after 3-4 weeks of treatment. An increase of 1.0 g/dL or more over baseline is an accurate predictor of longer-term and sustained response to continued
oral therapy.
Even though you feel better, you will need to keep taking the pills for several months to build up your iron stores. Sometimes it takes up to 6 months of treatment with
iron supplements before iron levels return to normal.
To ensure adequate absorption from the intestines:
1. Don't take iron with antacids as they can interfere with the absorption of iron. Take iron two hours before or four hours after you take antacids.
2. Take iron tablets with vitamin C or with a glass of orange juice as it improves the absorption of iron.
Generally the iron pills are safe, however they can cause
stomach upset,
constipation, black colored stools,
metallic taste, etc.
Hope these answer your query.
Wishing you best of your health.
Take care.
