How Much Longer Is Safe Before Intervening After 4 C Dilation?
My daughter s water broke at 12 midnight last night and even though they started Pitocin at 1:30 pm, she is stlll only 3 1/2-4 c dilated. How much longer is it safe before intervening? the baby has a monitor on his head and my daughter is being monitored.

Her scenario is not so unusual: the patient who ruptures her bag of water and who needs Pitocin to induce or augment labor. As long as there is no concern about the baby in terms of the fetal monitoring, and no concern about infection related to being rupture for a prolonged period of time, then she should continue with the current plan. It is okay for you to ask the OB Provider - "can you tell me how things are going? What are your criteria for considering a C-section?"
