Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi my daughter s birth weight was 3.4 kg, but now after 5 months she is 5.6 kg.is this weight appropriate for her? She is active. But while carrying we feel she is very light weight. Now we just started giving cerelac & other foods.is this a normal weight?
Her weight is a bit on the lower side. For a baby with 3.4 kg birth weight who completed 5 months, we expect around 7 kg.But as she is active and playful, we need not worry- just keep few points in mind regarding feeding:
1. Feed at least every 3 hours
2.Night feeds are very important for weight gain and adequate milk output the next day
3.Empty one breast before changing to next
4.Do not give much water, this will relieve thirst and reduce milk intake. Then check weight after one month- we expect around 400g gain each month till 1 year.
If not gaining at this pace, kindly have a sitting with your pediatrician.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam TK
