How Often Can Meclizine Be Taken?

I am a 66 year old woman, have A-Fib, and am experiencing a “whizzing” sound in my ear. My left ear is somewhat stopped up 90% of the time. I have been diagnosed with “labrynthitis viral syndrome” 35-40 years ago. At that time, I was prescribed Meclizine 10 mg but only took it when I began to get dizzy (4-6 times/year). Episodes began to increase in frequency to 2-3 times per quarter. Between 8 and 10 years later, 10mg was not helping. Anticedents were a loud sudden sound, bright light, or whenever my digestive track was irritated. I was then prescribed 25mg that I only took when I needed it. During the last few weeks, I have had to take meclizine more often with a frequency gradually building up to a need of every 4-5 hours as opposed to every 8 hours. QUESTION: How often can I take meclizine without it hurting my body?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The whizzing in the ear is due to tinnitus. It may or may not be linked to your previous diagnosis of labyrinthitis viral syndrome. In most cases labrynthitis lasts only a short periods of time, not usually associated with tinnitus. Tinnitus can sometimes occur in a condition called Meniere's disease. Meniere's can be associated with hearing loss and dizziness.
It would be best to see your doctor, particularly an ENT specialist, for assessment.

Hope I have answered your query.
