Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
In accord with published recommendations, serial testing of Troponin I at intervals of 2 to 4 hours for up to 12 to 24 hours is suggested in order to corroborate a single Troponin I result. An elevated troponin alone is not sufficient to make the diagnosis of MI. what is he looking for ....diagnosis of MI
Diagnosis of myocardial infarction has to be done by a combination of parameters and cannot be done using a single test like Troponins. These include: 1. Clinical Evaluation 2. Electrocardigram 3. Serm levels of enzymes: (a) CK-MB (b) Cardiac Troponin (c) Myoglobin (d) LDH 4. Echocardiogram
Enzyme levels can be repeated every 6 - 12 hours to know about the progress of infarction. In case myocardial infarction is treated, CK - MB levels are monitored every 24 hours to know the effectiveness of thrombolytic treatment.
Hope the information provided is useful.
