Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
dear doctor. My 41 yr old daughter is going through some low sugar issues now. Last night it dropped to 38 and I gave her the glucagon inj. because she was unconscience. After a couple of hours it went to 70 But she felt nausea and pain in the belly. It then dropped to 65 and I called the Ambulance because I was afraid. Their meter read 70 but because she was bleeding from her eyes and nose they took her to ER. The PA on duty placed her in the waiting room off of the stretcher with a heplock in. She wanted to leave but I encouraged her to stay and be treated. Her BS at that time was 58 and they gave her orange jc with sugar and plain orange jc. After a 3 hour wait we were seen her Wt count was 22,000 and she has bacteria in her urine. They pushed an Amp of glucose and ran an IV of d5 !/2 saline at 150/hr. She was given some IV med for nausea because she could not eat anything. She was checked every half hour and her sugar got up to 89 when she was discharged. With instructions to call her endocrinologist in morning for management. Also to eat two pieces of toast with peanut butter before she goes to sleep. This morning her BS was 203 and she was still nauseated. She refused her 32 units of 70/30, but did not eat. At lunchtime she was 173 so she took her insulin and ate lunch she has had several bloody noses today and one time her left eye bled from the tear duct. We live out in the country I need to know how often can she has ve the glucagon ?
HI Thank for asking to HCM It is not mentioned here that whether she is diabetic or not, but at the end of history it red about the insulin so I could guess, that she must be diabetic, if this is true then she has to follow the rule of tight glucose level rule, she need to see the endocrinologist for better management, this will come around she wont be in need of any glucose any more now, once the glucose level manage nicely, hope this information helps you, have nice day.
Your daughter diabetic and on insulin. Dose of insulin is to be properly assesed. How frequently she is having hypoglycemia? Dose of insulin and food intake is to be advised by treating doctor. Hypoglycemia is always treated by giving IV glucose. Consult treating doctor about dose of insulin and glucose in hypoglycemia.
