I am 28 gay male. I received an unprotected blowjob from a person at party. His HIV status is unknown. I was not aware that i had syphilis during receiving the blowjob. i got aware of my STD 20 days after the incident and i took HIV ELFA test at 22nd day which is negative and than antibody test at 35th day which is again negative. How reliable are my results?
The ELISA test cannot be considered to be 100% reliable because it cannot detect the HIV virus during the Window Period.
The chances of acquiring HIV occurs in 2 cases: 1. If your partner is affected with HIV 2. If there is any cut/raw surface in your mucosa through which the infection can spread.
Since the status of the person is unknown, it will be better to undergo certain tests like p24 assay or PCR for HIV, which becomes positive within a week and are almost 100 % sensitive. Even the presence of a single virus in the body can be detected by PCR. So, if this test comes negative, you can be sure that you are safe.
Wishing you a good health. Take care.
