My daughter for a cortisone injection in her knee today..she ahd no problem at all during the injection or when she went to 3 hours of basketball practice afterwards but tonight she is really uncomfortable and having trouble putting weight on her injected leg. She has some swelling as well. The pain and swelling is above where the injection was given, about 2 inches above the injections site.....is this normal? how long will this last?

Hi
Thanks for choosing HCM for your query.

I have gone through the problem of your daughter following Cortisone injection in to the knee joint.
I am of the opinion that pain and swelling could be due to bleeding that might have occurred following the injection in to the join. Another possibility is it could be due to infection.

Kindly get her examined by the treating doctor for the management of painful swelling following Cortisone injection into the joints may be she needs aspiration of the blood that might have been accumulated.

Best regards
