Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my father is 81. ha enlarged prostate[benign].given Veltam plus and taking for almost 25 days. 25 days prior he could not urine and had to use catheter for the first time to drain urine.now he is passing good amount of urine but sometimes feels a burning sensation while passing urine which goes the moment he passes urine. his urologist has asked him to see him after a month.is the burning sensation because of veltam plus. he doesnot have any other problem.no medicines expect supradin(vitamin) once a day.kindly please guide me.
Hi, There might be mild burning urination because of the fact that he had an indwelling catheter for some time, but this should not be a problem and will disappear with time usually. Veltam is a reasonably good rug in that it will help your father avoid retention of urine, especially if it has been combined with Dutasteride. Importantly, your father might be feeling he is voiding urine well, but the correct estimate of how well he is voiding is to get a test called Uroflowmetry done, followed by an estimate of post-void residue in bladder. If the flow is poor or if the residue is very high,he could still benefit from endoscopic prostate surgery which is, under normal circumstances, a very simple procedure.
