My father is 85 years old and COPD patient. Now he has prostrate size of 21 and doctors advised him to take Veltam Plus one tablet in the night. He is not comfortable after taking the tablet and his abdomen is bulging. What could be the reason for abdomen bulging. Is there any alternate medicine for this ?
Hello Thanks for query . Your father who is 85 years old with COPD is having problem in passing urine and has developed bulging of abdomen mostly due to retention of urine.
As per the size of the prostate(21gms) that you have mentioned his urinary problem is due to what is called as Fibrous Prostate and not due to enlarged prostate .
Please consult qualified Urologist for clinical examination and get following basic tests done to confirm the diagnosis. 1) Urine routine and culture. 2) Ultrasound scanning of abdomen and pelvis with specific mention of post void residual urine volume
Since he is not comfortable with Veltam Plus and If he has significant residual urine ,I would suggest him to get endoscopic surgery of BNI (Bladder Neck Incision ) done .This will help to improve his urine flow and pass urine freely .
