How Safe Is To Have A Tablet After The Expiry Date ?
Hello Doctor , How safe is to have a tablet after the expiry date. Yesterday by mistake i happen to take a tablet named Etosys which got expired in the month of May. Will the tablet serve the purpose for whcih i took or does the tablet looses its value/effect post it expiry date ?

Medicines after expiry date will not give exact effect accordig to dosage.It loses its potency.It may produce some side effect which depend upon molecule.

Studies show that expired drugs may lose some of their potency over time, from as little as 5% or less to 50% or more (though usually much less than the latter). Even 10 years after the "expiration date," most drugs have a good deal of their original potency. So wisdom dictates that if your life does depend on an expired drug, and you must have 100% or so of its original strength, you should probably toss it and get a refill, in accordance with the cliché, "better safe than sorry" as some drugs like tetracyclines have bad side effects after expire. Kindly get a fresh prescription drug. Thank you.
