Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a family member who may have a lung transplant. He is very hesitant to have this lifesaving surgery for many reasons but he is particularly fearful of the antirejection and other meds he will need lifelong following the surgery. Would you be able to advise him re this? Thank you
Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. Thank you for your query. I am Dr. Rommstein, I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can. Lung transplantation is a complex and extensive surgery, however it is indicated only in patients where no other treatment methods os available so this represents surgery that save life. COnsidering this, there is no another option but everyone has right to decide whatever he wants. Rejection rates for lungs are not high and can be managed with medications in most cases. Also, lungs can be transplanted more times if necessary.
I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time. Kindly regards. Wish you a good health. DR. Ivan Rommstein
