How Safe Is Using Allegra & Nizral For Skin Infections?

Hello Dr Sanjay Fernandes sir, This is Deepak who visited you in Holy spirit who have 5months old jock itch & underarm skin infection issue & who is getting married in next 30days. You have written Allegra(fexofenadine) & Nizral(Ketoconazole) medicines to me today. But I find that these both medicines have drug interactions on many sites like in this WWW.WWWW.WW . Sir, kindly advise me if I can go ahead with both medicines. Deepak YYYY@YYYY

Hi,

It is not safe to take allegra and nizral together. Nizral is an azole anti-fungal commonly used to treat fungal infection of the skin. When taken along with the an antihistamine like allegra, nizral can increase its plasma level by reducing its clearance from the body and this may increase the risk of arrhythmia (abnormal heart rhythm/rate) which can be fatal.

Had I been your treating doctor I would have suggested cetirizine along with nizral instead of allegra.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
