How Safe Is Using Urea 40% And Ammonium Lactate Cream 12% For Pressure Sores?

My wife is dying of als and is mostly bedridden. She s getting pressure sores. I know she must be shifted every two hours or so, have pillow between thighs or lower leg, etc. I m suffering from sciatica and am unable to lift or shift her. Question: I have a supply of UREA cream 40% and tubes of Ammonium Lactate Cream 12% and wonder whether these or perhaps an OTC body oil or cream might help the pressure sores and prevent them from becomming bedsores under these conditions and my limitations.

Hello and welcome to HCM.
Sorry to hear about your wife.
It is most important to change position, to prevent pressure over the bony areas which causes the sores and also delays the healing.
Since this is not always possible, do consider using a water mattress as this relieves the hard pressure greatly.
As for the sores, clean regularly with just water or saline, and apply an antibiotic over the sores. Cover with a loose moist bandage.
Dont use harsh chemicals.
Urea and ammonium lactate creams are both strong creams used mainly for very dry, thick or scaly skin and should not be used over the delicate skin over and around the sores, as it may cause more peeling and thinning.
Just use an oil like paraffin or a good moisturizing lotion regularly esp over the sharp and bony areas.
Hope this helps and that you get better as well.
