How Serious Is An Enlarged Liver And What Are The Possibilities Of It Being A Fatal Disease?
Hi, my doctor recently diagnosed me with an enlarged liver but I am confused with this because the reactions of the Dr. were not very convincing or giving much concerns or instructions to severity. How serious is an enlarged liver and what are the possibilities of being a fatal disease?
An enlarged liver is one, that is bigger than normal and it is called hepatomegaly. It is a sign of underlying disease, rather the disease itself. The disease may be some liver problem like hepatitis, liver cirrhosis, fatty liver, cancer of the liver, secondary's due to metastasis etc. It could be a sign of heart failure, as well as some blood disorders and genetic disorders and so many other diseases.
It can be a sign of some mild disorder as well as some serious and life threatening diseases. Therefore, the treatment will depend on the cause of the disease and treatment done accordingly. Find the cause of hepatomegaly for proper treatment.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
