How Serious Is Having Heart Murmur, Tightness In Chest And Dyspnea?

My 16 year old son was just diagnosed with a heart murmur and his EKG showed RBBB. His symptoms that lead us to be checked were, dyspnea after exercise, cough, nausea or emesis after racing, low energy and tightness in chest like he can t expand his lungs. He is a runner and runs about 30-40 miles a week and is in track. He is to have an echo, how serious is this?

Anesthesiologist 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms you have mentioned needs to be evaluated with a thorough Echocardiographic examination. As he is a sports person with good exercise tolerance (that is he can run miles a week), the underlying problem is less likely to be severe. But definitely he needs a evaluation.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
