How Serious Is Low White Blood Cell Count?

My 29 year old son has Crohns and is under his local hospital. He has regular blood tests and B12 and tonight received a phone call from his GP informing my son that his white cell count is dangerously low. His medication is Pentasa and Mercaptopurine, GP advising him to stop immediately taking the latter. My son has had a constant headache for about 5 days now and has been complaining of extreme tiredness all the time. The GP has contacted my son's hospital with a view to getting an urgent appointment. I am extremely worried about him. Are you able to reassure me that with help the cell count will recover back to normal?

Hi, dear
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern. He was taking mercaptopurin. It is known to cause low wbc count. You should stop it and consult your doctor and take alternative drugs. You should regularly monitor your wbc count. It will come back to normal within few days.
