How Serious Is The Condition Of Calcium Deposits In Placenta And Uterus During Pregnancy?

My daughter is calling me regarding her recent pregnancy at 34 weeks. She says her doctors have decided that she may have Acrecia? (sp?) a condition regarding calcium deposits within the placenta and uterus. She wants me to travel now from bush Alaska to Kentucky to attend an early birth. She gives me a number Indicating a becline of progress of the fetus to 21%, that is not connected in my head to anything. How serious is this condition for her, as she says she needs help now. Do I leave Alaska with a 2 day travel time now? How quickly will this become a problem as her pregnancy progresses?

Hi,

Calcium deposition in the placenta during pregnancy towards the term is normal. But, if the calcium deposition is seen before 37 weeks, it is considered as abnormal deposition which indicates some pathological outcome for mother. Placenta accreta is the condition in which the placenta grows into the inner layers of the uterus. If the is mild penetration, it is called as placenta accreta. The penetration inside is the mucous layer is called as Placenta increta and the third type is the one that penetrates the wall of the uterus.

In Plancent accreta, elective LSCS is advised for betterment of baby and child. Ultrasound abdomen helps to identify the pathology. If there is free fluid accumulation in Pelvis areas also causes pain. The uterus is removed, since the placenta not detached from the inner layer uterus on placenta accreta. Visit Obstetrician for further evaluation.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
