Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Thank you. I was prescribed a prescription of Vitamin D 50,000 units. It s states Take 1 capsule by mouth weekly. And that s it. Am I suppose to take it with food, without food, at breakfast, lunch or dinner? Am I supposed to stay sitting up like certain medications or can I lay down afterwards. I cannot find answers to my concerns. Thank you.
It is best to check your serum vitamin D levels prior to starting the supplement. If low, then you have to take the prescribed capsule. It is best taken after food, preferably breakfast. There is no problem in lying down after taking the capsule. Try and get sunlight exposure as much as is possible, since that is the only natural source of vitamin D. Please check the serum vitamin D levels once in six to eight months, and the dose can be regulated as per the investigation values.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Ajit Kumar Varma
