Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern for your mother.
Chikungunya is a viral infection caused by chikungunya virus. In this condition, there is sudden onset of fever, which usually lasts two to seven days, while accompanying swelling of joints and joint pains, which typically last weeks or months.
There is no specific medications available to treat chikungunya virus infection or disease. To decrease the symptoms, following measures needs to be taken:
1. Adequate rest.
2. Drink sufficient quantities of fluids to prevent dehydration.
3. Take medicines, such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen to relieve fever and pain.
Gradually, over a period of few weeks, the joint symptoms would get better and then resolve.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
