How Should Head And Neck Pain Caused By Trauma Be Treated?

My 11-year-old daughter fell this afternoon on the way home from the bus stop. It was a pretty hard fall, and she hit her forehead on the sidewalk. She obviously cried and said she felt a bit dizzy. She laid down for a while, but then got up and felt fine. She s played outside, eaten, etc. She has had no vomiting. However, she said her head hurts and the back of her neck hurts. Should I be concerned about a concussion with the head and neck pain being her only symptoms?

Hi there,
I am Dr. Deepak, I work in Emergency Department, where I see many patients with injury to their head. As you mentioned your daughter had injured your head while coming from the bus stop. She hit her head at the side walk. following that she rested for some time, and now she is complaining of head and neck pain.
I feel she had sustained minor injury to your head, I can say that as
1. She didn't had any dizzy feeling.
2. She didn't had vomiting even though you had nausea.
3. She didn't loose consciousness.
4. She not feeling any numbness or weakness of any one side of your body
5. She is not having any bluish discoloration around your eyes and behind the ear
6. She is not having any trouble with walking.
And the most important thing is, she is pretty much okay right now. Except for the headache, it will some time to go off.
If your daughter faces any of the above mentioned problem within 24-48 hrs, then you can show her to the Doctor, who can examine her.
As you mentioned, She is also complaining of neck pain. I feel you need to take her to the Emergency department to get her check up.
In the mean while you can give her some amount of pain killer and apply ice pack. Please make sure that she dosen't move her head to quickly to any side and don't bend her neck in the front or back. Ask her to rest.
Thank you
Hope your concern was dealt with and hope your daughter has a speedy recovery.
