Hi,I m a 56 year old male with some shoulder pain. Not sure what it is, maybe arthritis, rotator cuff or a combination of the two. I take blood pressure medication and a low dose aspirin per day. A friend I train with mentioned Glucosamine & Chondroitin w/MSM for joint health. Should I be concerned with taking this with my pressure medication. In your opinion , is it worth?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Nishad BN's Response
Hi Thank you for asking HCM. I have gone through your query. Shoulder pain can be due to frozen shoulder which is common for your age or even it can be rotator cuff tendinitis or tear. Rotator cuff tendinitis is associated with pain for certain movements. Frozen shoulder is associated with pain and stiffness of movements in most of the angles. A physical examination by an orthopedician is well appreciated to rule out the condition. X ray followed by MRI of shoulder might be required in case of positive signs. Glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate is helpful for wear and tear of cartilage. You can take it if you have osteoarthritis which will evident in X rays. Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear. Thanks.
