How Soon Can HIV Infection Be Diagnosed After A Possible Exposure?
Hi madam this is krishna. I had a sex with an unknown girl.. But i was safe at that time by wearing condom no slippage and no breakage.. But i did fingering into her vagina with my two fingers.. I did HIV RNA PCR TEST after 16 days to the exposure it came back TARGET NOT DETECTED .. And after 49 days (7weeks) I did the ANTI HIV AB/AG. It came back as NON REACTIVE (0.07 ).. How Soon Can HIV Infection Be Diagnosed After A Possible Exposure?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. Don t worry, If the result is negative three months after exposure your result is interpreted as negative. This assumes you have had no further risks. HIV RNA PCR works from 7-10 days after exposure it is 99.89% accurate. Antibody test after 12 weeks of exposure it is 99.97% accurate. Antigen test p24 4-6 weeks of exposure it is 99.8% accurate. So you don t have HIV be happy. Take care.
