How Soon Can Fluid In Lungs Be Removed On Having Appendix Removed?

I had my appendix removed five weeks ago. Two weeks after my operation I had fluid in my lungs which was treated over 7 days with antiobiotics. I am wondering what the recovery period is and how long will I be off work. My boss has been saying I should do a phase to return work but I am just wanting to return full time. What is the right thing to do?
