How To Avoid Indwelling Catheter From Falling Out?
I have an in dwelling catheter and it has come out when the balloon is inflated. I saw my urologist and he got me into antibiotics as he thought it was a uti. That seemed to work for about a week but now the catheter is starting to fall out again with the balloon inflated. Should I try another antibotic?
Hello and welcome to HCM, The catheter is kept in place by inflation of balloon. The ballon is inflated by filling water with a syringe. The catheter coming out despite the required settings calls for replacement of the catheter. Any evidence of urinary tract infection can be tested by routine examination of urine. The urine needs to be taken from the catheter for testing. In case there is no evidence of infection in urine, there is no need to take the antibiotics. And the catheter needs to be changed if it is coming out despite filling of the balloon. Please consult your doctor regarding changing of the catheter.
