I had unprotected sex 5 days ago and I didn t have access to birth control until today. I had sex on the 26th of July and today is the 31st of July. Please can you tell me the best contraceptive I can take to avoid the risk of pregnancy? I completed my period on the 17th of July.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the emergency contraceptive pill gives best results within 24 hours of unprotected intercourse and even up to 80% within 72 hours. There are no sure certain methods of 100% accuracy at the interval of 5 days so far as the pregnancy prevention is concerned.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
