Hi there. I am a 31 year old female. I was diagnosed with MS 14 years ago after an episode of optic neuritis. I then went the next 13 years symptom free until the birth of my second son. When he was 3 months old, I had numbness in my right hand/forearm and my right foot. It went away after about 4 weeks. I went to see a neurologist who confirmed the diagnosis of benign MS. For the last couple of weeks my right had falls asleep while I am sleeping. When I wake, it wakes up but the tip pf my ring finger remains a bit tingly . Does this sound like MS or is it something else? Pinched nerve or CTS?
Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
MS (Multiple sclerosis)most frequently affects young adults with female preponderance. In your case age of onset is 17 years. Optic neuritis is common at the onset of disease . Peripheral paraesthesiae involving distal arms and legs occurs in Neuropathic type of MS. Pain in carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is primarily numbness that is so intense that it wakes one from sleep, whereas you are having undisturbed sleep. You are having Relapsing remitting type (RRMS) i.e.85 % of Multiple sclerosis ,as per your history. Here you have an attack, go into complete or partial remission, then have the symptoms return.
