I am afraid of getting diabetes as my urine always smell sweet and I am always thirsty. I am also easily attractd to mosquitoes. Those are symptoms of diabetes right? I do not have the courage to get my urine tested or get checked to see whether I am suffering from diabetes or not. But with all these symptoms, is it that I m most slightly having diabetes?
Hi, I am Dr. Kaushik. I am a diabetologist and specialist in preventive medicine. I actually don't have any evidence regarding mosquitoes "love" relationship. But, sweetish smell in urine may be normal or due to diabetes or renal impairment to handle sugar or a metabolic disease or UTI. In addition, diabetes patients do have complaints like increased thirst, nocturia, increased urine frequency. Anyways, sitting at the cozy corner of your living room assuming what you have written won't be a wise decision. Rather, you should get the following investigations done- Fasting plasma glucose, HBA1c and Urine for routine examination. Sitting at home with the fear of a disease is after all worse than obtaining a definite knowledge of whether you have any disease at all and if at all you have any of what I mentioned, I can assure you, you will stay healthy with a few diet and lifestyle modifications and some medications.
