my 14 year old granddaughter started pulling out her eyelashes and biting her fingernails. she was lots of friends but just told me she get anxiety amongst a large group in lunchroom and sweats. her mom, my daughter has a substance control problem and lost her to the father 2 years ago. she is happy here in the home she grew up in. the dad lets her stay here all the time. what can I do to help her?
For Children at this age group, these type of anxiety disorders are common. Many school going children do come across such situations. For them the school is opportunity galore. They learn from those opportunities.
The social anxiety symptom you are talking about is a bit difficult to cure for elders. But for children, it is child's play. You should not talk much about this anxiety problem to the child. But guide her to engage herself in those problematic situations more and more. She will have many such circumstances and she will take them up and will be alright. Your encouragements are just an added motivation. Nothing to worry.
Hope this answers your query. I am available for furthrer clarifications. Take care
